World Goth Day 2025

World Goth Day 2025

We've joined forces with four of the resident artists at Parliament Tattoo to celebrate World Goth Day.

In honour of the gothic arts, we reached back in time and learnt about the lost art of collodion photography. Invented in the 1850s, this gorgeous photographic style has immortalised our artists and their designs. Photographed in North London by John Hoare in his wetplate studio, the images were captured using an 8x10 bellows camera with an antique lens.

Wetplate collodion photography is the chemical photographic process which replaced the daguerreotype. A plate of tin or glass is sensitised with silver nitrate and placed in a large format camera. Once developed in the proper solution, the final product is silver metal imprinted on a black sheet.

Parliament Tattoo is Mary Wyatt's custom tattoo studio in North London. Tattoos are by appointment only. For more information follow @ParliamentTattoo on Instagram or visit parliamenttattoo.com.
